Yorkshire Water: Chemical Investigation Programme 2 Contract Award
Apr 3, 2015
Yorkshire Water supply Drinking Water and carry out Waste Water treatment across the Yorkshire region. ALS Environmental are the analytical partner for Yorkshire Water and have recently signed a contract to provide sampling and analysis to Yorkshire Water for the Chemical Investigation Programme 2 (CIP2).
Following a 12 month programme of investment and method development ALS Environmental have had all method data signed off by the CIP2 Technical Working Group (TWG). The sign off allows ALS Environmental to start sampling and analysis ahead of the official programme start date. All ALS Environmental CIP2 validation data was signed off on a right first time basis. The feedback from the CIP2 TWG was that "ALS Environmental had done very well in producing high quality data" and that "the CIP programme was seeing an impressive picture of ALS capability."
ALS Environmentals Quality Director, Christopher Caird, who has been a critical part of our CIP2 development plan, comments:
The excellent feedback from the CIP2 TWG is testament to the hard work and dedication of our laboratory staff.
We have been able to achieve limits of detection significantly below the Drinking Water Quality standards in more complex matrices, such as Trade Effluent and Surface Waters, all before the official start date for the project.
The Water Framework Directive (WFD), under 200 / 60 / EC, has placed a responsibility on European Community Water Suppliers to monitor a range of emerging pollutants as part of the CIP2. Under this agreement Yorkshire Water have a responsibility and a duty of care to provide analytical data to the UK Water Industry Research (UKWIR); this data must be supplied in 2020 and the CIP2 project must cover samples over a 5 year period.
Lisa Clarke, Operations Director at ALS Environmental and one of our key liaisons with Yorkshire Water comments on our CIP2 contract:
We are proud to be helping Yorkshire Water deliver the CIP2 project, which will see us analyse samples from a range of sources including Water Treatment Works as well as upstream and downstream of these plants.
We have a long standing relationship and the award of this contract will see both ALS Environmental and Yorkshire Water become stronger by working in partnership.
Under the government guidance for safe Drinking Water ALS Environmental provide analysis of samples for Yorkshire Water under a long term contract.
