Nov 24, 2015
ALS Environmental will be attending the The Water Management Society (WMSoc) conference on rapid microbiological confirmation techniques. The conference is being held at the Society of Chemical Industry (SCI), Belgrave Square, Central London on Tuesday 1st December 2015.

The world of microbiology and analysis is rapidly evolving, new testing methods are being developed and introduced to the routine laboratory, including rapid confirmation MALDI-ToF techniques and PCR.
ALS Environmental were the first UK commercial environmental laboratory to validate and acquire UKAS ISO 17025 and Drinking Water Testing Specification (DWTS) accreditation on the rapid identification of positive Microbiological and Legionella samples by MALDI-ToF Mass Spectrometry.

This one day conference will feature a number of case studies where rapid microbiology
has been utilised successfully, but will also serve as a reminder that sometimes a
combination of methodologies (old and new) may still be beneficial.
ALS Environmental's Talvinder Chohan, Business Development Manager, who was involved in the development of both PCR and MALDI-ToF in our Microbiology department, comments:
ALS have been at the forefront on MALDI-ToF development for Legionella and associated Water Microbiology. We were the first UK Environmental laboratory to utilise the MALDI-ToF and have worked hard on developing our Legionella species collection to include over 50 different strains of Legionella as well as developing confirmations for the ESKAPE pathogens.
