Toxicity of Chemicals in Food, Consumer products and the Environment Webinar
Nov 15, 2022
The Committee on Toxicity of Chemicals in Food, Consumer products and the Environment (COT) published a 92 page statement on the risks to human health related to PFAS in food. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) had been asked for its opinion on the risks to human health from PFAS in food. The COT reviewed the EFSA opinion and considered the outputs alongside UK exposure data to assess the potential risks to the UK population from PFASs (predominantly through exposure via the diet).
This webinar will present the COT findings and explain how they can be applied to quantitative assessments of the risks to human health as required by Land Contamination Risk Management. The critical studies used by EFSA will be compared with those used by the US EPA to derive their interim health advisory levels published earlier this year (covered by LQM in a webinar in June).
The webinar will be of relevance to:
- Regulatory and local authority staff involved with contaminated land issues
- Consultants
- Anyone producing contaminated land reports
- Anyone reviewing third-party reports
This webinar offers delegates the opportunity to understand the key findings of the COT statement and how it can be applied to human health risk assessment.
By the end of the webinar you should be better able to understand:
- the COT view of the EFSA tolerable weekly intake (TWI)
- the basis for the EFSA (2020) TWI
- the evidence on UK exposures to PFAS
- basic toxicological principles underpinning human health risk assessment
