Reduced Limit of Detection for Sulphide
Sep 1, 2015
ALS Environmental is pleased to announce that following revalidation, our reporting limit for method WAS033, Total and Dissolved Sulphide, will be lowered to 0.020mg/l.
Sulphide can build up in sewer systems and cause corrosion of pipe work and concrete, release noxious odours (hydrogen sulphide) and inhibit treatment processes.
The ALS Environmental method for the determination of Total and Dissolved Sulphide, based on Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater, uses a manual colorimetric method (UV-VIS) and is applicable to effluents, leachates, and wastewaters. In an acidic solution, the sulphide reacts with N-N-Diethyl-p-phenylene-diamine in the presence of dichromate ions to produce a coloured complex DPD Blue. A spectrophotometer set at a wavelength of 670nm is used to measure the intensity of the colour, which is proportional to the concentration of sulphide present in each sample.
