ALS Retains ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 Certification
Mar 18, 2015
Following several intensive audits in February and March ALS Environmental are pleased to announce that we have retained our certification for both ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001. ISO 14001 is the worlds most recognised environmental standard and OHSAS 18001 is an Occupational Health and Safety Managment system aimed at reducing workplace hazards. ALS Environmental place a business emphasis on Health, Safety and Environmental factors and all of these matters form part of the ALS core values.
ISO 14001 Certification
ISO 14001 is an internationally accepted standard that outlines how to put an effective environmental management system in place. It is designed to help businesses remain commercially successful without overlooking environmental responsibilities. By maintaining an ISO 14001 system we have the framework to allow ALS Environmental to meet increasingly high customer expectations of corporate responsibility as well as legal and regulatory requirements.
The retention of our ISO 14001 certification demonstrates the commitment of ALS Environmental to help protect our environment. To this end we have taken several major steps over the last 12 months to reduce our Carbon footprint including:
- Installation of Lightfoot to our Field Services and Couirers to improve driver behaviour
- Installation of new roof at Coventry laboratory
- Relocation of Runcorn site to new laboratory in Chester
- Introduction of Drop-off locations to reduce driving for customers and ALS vans.
OHSAS 18001 Certification
OHSAS 18001 is a framework for an occupational health and safety management system. It helps ALS Environmental put in place the policies, procedures and controls required to achieve the best possible working conditions, aligned to internationally recognised best practice.
The retention of our OHSAS 18001 certification is aligned to two of the ALS core values "Safety as a priority" and "Hard work and continuous improvement". Over the last 12 months ALS Environmental saw the business clock up over 365 days without a loss time incident which reached nearly 400 days before such an incident occured.
Upon the retention of both the ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 certification ALS Environmentals Health and Safety Manager, Paul Talbot, comments:
It is always re-assuring to have a successful audit by a third party of our Environmental, Health and Safety management systems. The fact we have had two such audits in such a short space of time and passed both with only minor non-conformancies is testiment to the focus paid on Health, Safety and Environmental matters by ALS as a business.
