ALS Environmental to present at LCA Open Day 2017
Oct 23, 2017
ALS Environmental are honoured to be exhibiting and presenting at the Legionella Control Association Open Day at the Drayton Manor Hotel, Tamworth on the 2nd November 2017. We are delighted that two representatives from ALS Environmental that will be providing presentations to delegates. Our technical experts are Bjorn Nielsen, Principal Scientist & Nick Barsby, Sales & Marketing Manager UK & Ireland.
Bjorn Nielsen's presentation will be 'ISO 11731:2017 Water Quality - Enumeration of Legionella'. ISO 11731:2017 specifies culture methods for the isolation of Legionella and estimation of their numbers in water samples. These methods are applicable to all kinds of water samples including potable, industrial, waste and natural waters. These methods can be used for water related matrices, e.g. biofilms, sediments, etc. Bjorn will explain the implications and applications of this.
Nick Barsby will be addressing 'Other Water Borne Pathogens'. Nick's presentation will discuss the different types of pathogens present in water, their implications and the ways they can be detected.
The ESKAPE pathogens and Legionella will be amongst some of the topics under discussion. ESKAPE pathogens are Enterococcus faecium, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterobacter species & Stenotrophomonas. The ESKAPE pathogens are particularly concerning as they have an antibiotic resistant nature. ALS Environmental are able to offer instant confirmations for these pathogens using MALDI-ToF.
To learn more about MALDI-ToF please see our datasheet here.
At ALS Environmental we have two methods of identification of Legionella pneumophila and Legionella species by using MALDI-ToF and Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). ALS Environmental can provide a result for Legionella within 24 hours using the PCR method where a rapid result is required due to suspected infestation.
