ALS Environmental Appoints Fortress to Reduce Waste to Landfill
Apr 10, 2015
ALS Environmental has recently appointed Fortress Recycling to take away mixed recycling from our Coventry laboratory.
The move has come about to encourage more recycling to take place at the Coventry site. By employing Fortress as a contractor we have also taken measures to reduce our waste disposal costs, this will have a positive impact on our Carbon Footprint, which is one of the core values of the ALS Group.

The new mixed recycling waste stream now means that the ALS Environmental laboratory in Coventry recycles;
- Paper
- Cardboard
- Recycling
- Plastic
- Cans
- Tin
- Glass
Health, Safety and Environmental Manager at ALS Environmental, Paul Talbot; who as been influential in the transfer of Waste Services to Fortress, comments:
"Fortress recycling boast a state of the art waste sorting and recycling facility, because of this we can now mix multiple waste streams. This reduces both the time we spend sorting recyclables at our Coventry lab and also the fuel needed to transport our waste streams. This continual drive for improvement in waste handling is symptomatic of the innovation built into our ISO 14001 certified management system."
Fortress provides separate Mixed Recycling collections where the material is taken to a state of the art processing plants where Optical Recognition and Infrared Technology is used to segregate the material for processing back to raw material. To offset the greenhouse gases that the vehicles emit, Fortress fund renewable energy projects around the world, which all meet the Voluntary Carbon Standard.
