ALS: #YourSOILution in review
Dec 19, 2016
On Tuesday 13th December, ALS Environmental held the #YourSOILution conference at our Coventry laboratory; the event was described by many as a huge success. ALS welcomed delegates from all different professions, including academia, consultants, environmental engineers and geologists.
ALS Environmental would like to thank all participants who attended the #YourSOILution seminar. The breadth of speakers was commendable. Our Sales & Marketing Manager Nick Barsby set the scene for the day. Roger Chandler of Keynetix discussed the importance and need for AGS data, something that ALS are able to offer to clients from both Coventry and Hawarden. Mike Cohen (Mike Cohen Environmental Ltd) illustrated the issues associated with the Uncertainty of Measurements (UoM) and the impact that precision and bias could have against action limits and site thresholds. For details on the ALS UoM please contact your account manager.
One of the highlights of the day was a presentation from Sabrina Cipullo of Cranfield University who discussed the assessment of Bioavailability, this lead to an invigorating debate. This was followed by Paul Gribble (ALS) who gave the delegates an insight to emerging contaminants, in particular PFOS & PFAS analysis. Bioaccumulation of these compounds are a real concern around Europe and America with a renewed focus being placed on these during the CIP2 project. Richard Ogden of Land Quality Management rounded up the talks with a fascinating talk about the relevance of laboratory data in assessing the risks from asbestos in soil.
Upon presenting at the #YourSOILution conference, Paul Gribble, Technical Director at ALS Hawarden comments;
It was great to be part of the ALS #YourSOILution day at the Coventry laboratory. There was a good cross section of delegates and some excellent presentations covering the established and emerging science of contaminated land analysis. It was also a great opportunity to promote the ALS Environmental partnership with the Hawarden laboratory which has been recently integrated as part of the ALcontrol acquisition.
After a hearty lunch the delegation was split into smaller groups so that the organised lab tour of the Coventry facility encouraged a hands-on atmosphere with plenty of time for interactive discussions with the experts who undertake client's analysis. It was a fantastic insight and from collated feedback delegates were impressed with the equipment, effort and attention to detail which goes into producing quality data on a commercial scale. The key focus of the tour was on the new metals laboratory and the Asbestos laboratory which both offer market leading solutions for all of our clients.
Upon supporting the #YourSOILution event, ALS Environmental's Sales and Marketing Director for the Hawarden business, Wendy Martindale, comments:
I was pleased to attend my first #YourSOILution event with my new colleagues at ALS! A fantastic event and I look forward to working with the team to create more seminars in 2017, combining the experience and knowledge of the technical experts at our world class environmental testing laboratories and thought leaders from within the industry sector
