AGS Laboratory Event in London

The Association of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Specialists (AGS) held a seminar on potential upcoming changes to EN ISO 17892 (Geotechnical investigation and testing - Laboratory testing of soil) on the 6th March 2014 and ALS Environmental were well represented at the event. . The seminar, covering Laboratory Services,is being held at Friends House, 177 Euston Road, London and will be of particular interest to our contaminated land customers. ALS Environmental are a long standing member of AGS and were looking to re-establish its connections within the contaminated land industry.
The AGS Laboratory seminar explained which analysis will be covered by the changes to EN ISO 17892, and the replacement of BS 1377 (methods of test for soils for Civil Engineering purposes) and the likely timetable for implementation. The seminars also included a presentation on Asbestos and a UKAS presentation on Deviating Samples. Managing and maintaining sample integrity is an important aspect in sample testing protocols; it is also covered in the ISO/IEC 17025 international standard for testing laboratories.

ALS Environmental were represented by Business Development Manager Nick Barsby, who has a broad range of experience in the contaminated land sector, including training on the use of portable XRF metals analysers; Inorganics Chemistry Operations Manager Christopher Law, who has worked for ALS Environmental for over 8 years holding a number of positions within the laboratory and Customer Service Manager, Ashley Ceairns who has managed the department for over 3 years and has been involved in numerous remediation projects for large scale contracts.
The main contaminated land laboratory for ALS Environmental is based on Torrington Avenue in Coventry; this site is also the hub for our equipment hire team and field services department. The ALS Environmental Coventry Laboratory is able to provide a broad range of analysis which includes, but is not limited to:
- Hydrocarbons
- National Grid suites
- Metals
- Waste Acceptance Criteria
- Volatile and Semi Volatile Organic compounds.
